Frequently Asked Questions

What if my student wants to return to public school?

No problem!  Your student will be a private school student transferring into a public school system.   In Lee County, all you would need to do is to go to School Choice and register your student for public school.  The school that they attend will send CHPS a records request form and we will submit their file to the school.  It's that simple.

What if I want to register additional students in the future?

Simply send in the required information for your students the same way you did for the previous students - birth certificate, immunizations, physical, and attendance.

Why is CHPS' service FREE?

The costs of maintaining CHPS is very minimal so, we do this as a FREE service to homeschoolers.

What would be the "best case scenerio" for my student to use CHPS services?

As always, it is up to the parent to decide how to best educate their children.  However, we get asked this question many times.  Below is an example of the "idea" of CHPS and how a family could choose to use it's services to the very best limit for their student:

Student Jane Doe is in 1st grade.  Her parents register her with CHPS and educate her at home using their own style of educating and learning.  Jane does great throughout her elementary years.  She makes friends, participates in co-ops, goes on field trips, plays, and has lots of fun as a child.

Now that Jane is entering her middle school years, her and her parents want a little more structure for her education so, they sign Jane up for a few online classes through FLVS.  Jane does great in those classes, makes good grades that are on her permanent record and makes a few online friends who were her classmates.  She even joins some of the clubs that FLVS offers online.

Now that Jane is approaching high school years, her parents want to make sure that Jane does well in her subjects, has a well-rounded education, and has every opportunity available for her.  So, they decide to tally up 6 -7 credit subjects to Jane's schedule so that she has a beginning to her school track.  They add a math, english, history, and science course from FLVS to her schedule, and they include credit for her part-time job at Publix, her ballet class, Bible study, her volleyball team commitment, and music lessons.  Jane's parents find out through CHPS that Jane is also eligible for Bright Futures scholarships while in her high school years.  CHPS and her parents begin to keep track through the Bright Future's website of all of the credits Jane earns throughout her high school years.

In 10th grade, Jane has a new door of opportunity open to her - FREE COLLEGE!  Jane can actually graduate high school with an Associate's degree - for FREE!  Through CHPS and Dual Enrollment at Edison College, Jane earns high school credit AND college credit for classes that she takes at Edison.  She is allowed to attend with FREE TUITION and her parents only have to pay for her books.  Jane has the choice of taking online college courses or on-campus courses.  She can participate in campus clubs and much more!

Jane works for the next 2-3 years earning her degree and now a second door of opportunity opens for her - Jane can now transfer to ANY COLLEGE SHE WANTS as a transfer student and go into it starting with her Associate's degree!  No entrance exams, applying, or waiting to see if she's accepted into her favorite college or not.  She's in automatically as a transfer student!  Not only does she get into her favorite college, she is also eligible for Bright Futures scholarships because her parents and CHPS have been keeping record of her credits through the Bright Futures website! Lucky Jane!  She got to be homeschooled, free Associate's degree, AND she got to go to her favorite college with scholarships that she earned during high school years!

What if my student meets the minimum score in Reading, but does not meet the Math and/or English score levels?

They can take certain courses at Edison, but no courses in subjects that they did not meet minimum scroes in.  They will be able to work in their classes up to 12 credits.  At that time, they will need to re-test in the subjects that they did not meet minimum requirements for to be able to continue earning credits through Edison.  *If they do not meet at least the minimum score in Reading, there really are no classes available to your student.
